Miyazaki Prefecture is believed to be Japan’s 2nd largest producer of the famed Japanese Mango. Located in Kyushu, in the South of Japan, the prefecture makes a great environment to cultivate these mangoes largely because of the warmer climate. Specifically, it is known for the Taiyo no Tamago (a.k.a “Egg of the Sun”), which gets its name from its bright orangey-red hue. With strict growing and grading practices, these are often the cream of the crop and have to meet criterium such as weighing at least 350g, containing sugar levels of at least 15% (Brix) to take on the prestigious name! To ensure the flawless exterior (like in the case of Shizuoka Crown Musk Melons), each Mango is suspended using a wire system to allow the fruit to fall when fully ripen — without being damaged.
If you’re not fussed, and want something that has a higher Price-Quality Ratio, check out our Miyazaki Kanjuku Mango instead!
- Flown in on Tuesdays, Wednesdays Fridays, and Saturdays, but do check out or flight schedules for the month or drop us a message
- Cut off for our next flight in: 12pm, 2 days prior to the date of arrival
